The Power Of
Your Thoughts

For as he thinks in his heart, so is he… Proverbs 23:7

You are what you think. Your thoughts are the source of everything in your life. What you say, decide, feel, and do is all determined by your thoughts. Therefore, if your thinking is good, your experience of life will be good. If your thinking is bad, your experience of life will be bad. So nothing is as important as what you think about, and how you think about it. This is why the Bible says we should be “casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ (2 Cor. 10:5).

We give power to whatever we focus upon. This can either be good or bad depending upon the object of your focus. Jesus put it this way, “The lamp of the body is the eye. If therefore your eye is good, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is that darkness (Matt. 6:22-23). The way we see things determines our experience. The way we look at things is not just visual, but mental. The eyes are windows through which we see the world, but it is our thoughts and attitudes that interpret what we see. One person sees an opportunity, another an obstacle. One mason is laying bricks, another is building a cathedral.

A good test to determine whether or not you have been thinking well is to ask yourself if your have been in the light or the darkness? Have you been in the flesh or the spirit? The answer is the result of your thoughts.

There can be no change of life without a change of mind. That’s why the Bible says, “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God” Romans 12:2. In fact, the idea of repentance is having a change of mind that results in a change of behavior. We will never truly turn from what is wrong in our lives and turn to what is right unless we start thinking more Biblically, wisely, and correctly about the situations in our lives.

God has given you a powerful tool; your mind. May you use it well. May you choose to love God with all your mind. Take responsibility for your thoughts. Think well. Think positively. Think with faith. Let these thoughts be part of your mouth and you will see the world better, feel better, glorify God better, and get better results.

Today’s prayer thought: “Lord, help me to think well so I can live well and be a better witness of You to this world.”

Keep looking up,
