Proclaim Great Things!

“Return to your own house, and tell what great things God has done for you.” And he went his way and proclaimed throughout the whole city what great things Jesus had done for him. Luke 8:39

This man had been possessed by a legion of demons when Jesus came across him. We do not know his name but we know he was in such bad condition that he lived alone and lived among the caves and tombs. Jesus set him free and changed his life. He went from being naked, alone, and out of his mind; to being clothed, with Jesus, and in his right mind.

What did this man do to deserve such victory and blessing? Nothing! He had done absolutely nothing to earn this visitation from Jesus. This shows us a great principle: Sometimes God blessed us, not because we deserve it, but because we need it. Much of what we receive from God comes not out of merit but necessity. God knows what we need when we need it.

After healing this man, Jesus gave him a charge, a commission: Go tell what great things God has done for you. He was called to first go to his own house and report to them what Jesus had done for him. These are the people who suffer most from our sins. We should also let them rejoice in our victory for both of these affect our families.

Second, we see that he went to the whole city and told of the great things that Jesus had done for him. He could not keep it to himself or to his family, this man wanted to tell the world! Such is the heart of a changed heart.

I like how this story speaks of the great things that “Jesus had done for him”. Not the great things that the man accomplished on his own. We are to say much of what Jesus has done for us and little of what we have done for Jesus. Grace always gives glory to God.

Open your eyes to the great things that God is doing in your life. There is sure to be many things to report. Walk by faith in Him so that you have much to share with others. Be sure to celebrate these victories with your family. They see the worst in you; let them see the best too. Then tell the world of the great things Jesus has done!

Today’s prayer: “Jesus thank you for finding me and setting me free from sin and death. Thank you for changing my life by your grace. Give me an uncontainable joy that will proclaim your greatness to those around me.”

Moving on Grace,
Pastor Gary
