Keep Looking Up!

…Looking unto Jesus the Author and Finisher of our faith. Hebrews 12:2

You have no doubt seen me use this phrase, "Keep looking up" as my signature. I want to share with you what it means to me, and why I use it as the tag line of the ministry.

First, it is practiced by Jesus Himself. When Jesus fed the multitudes with just a few fish and loaves of bread; He looked up to heaven, blessed and broke the bread, and gave it to the disciples…(Mark 6:41). When Jesus healed the deaf and mute man; He looked up to heaven, and said “be opened”, immediately his ears were opened and his tongue was loosed(Mark 7:34-35). When Jesus healed the blind man, He put His hands on his eyes, asked the man to "look up" and he was healed (Mark 8:25). Jesus was constantly looking up and encouraging others to do the same!

Second, it encourages us to follow the example of Jesus, which is to keep our focus on the Father. God is above us, therefore to look to Him is to look up. We can choose to look around, look within, or look down. However, undoubtedly the best place to look is up! That is symbolically where God is. King David said, "I lift my eyes up to the mountains-where does my help comes from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth." (Psalm 121:1-2).

Third, it is a positive direction to look in. "UP" is better than "DOWN". It speaks of the bright side of things; the good side of things. We chose our own attitude, and God wants it to be an attitude that sees with the eyes of faith. Not at how things are, otherwise how they could be. He wants us to see the best in people, circumstances, and in ourselves.

So why not live a life where you are looking up more than any other direction! It will be good for you, good for those around you, and good for our testimony to the world!

Keep looking up,
Pastor Gary
