Identity Confidence
“But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.”
1 Peter 2:9
No doubt you have heard of the term “identity crisis”. This refers to someone who has connected their identity to something, and then lost whatever they were connecting it to, thus leaving them wondering who they really are. It’s an easy mistake to make. We can find self worth from our possessions, positions, and even accomplishments. However, if our self esteem comes from the outside it can be lost. It’s not wrong to have these things, but it can be dangerous to be too heavily associated to them. Our true identity must come from within, from who we are, and especially whose we are. Then it can never be lost or removed.
God says that we are chosen, royal, holy, and special. Why you may ask? It is because of our relationship to Him. This is what matters. It is the foundation of our lives and where our strength comes from. When our self worth comes from God, then we will have an identity confidence that cannot be shaken. This is because God never changes, nor does His love for us.
Say this out loud to yourself: “I am chosen! I am royal! I am holy! I am special!” If this seems to childish or weird to you it’s only because you have been use to receiving praise from others rather than confessing and professing it from within yourself. This is a sign that you are in danger of pleasing man and getting your self worth from others. Speak it out loud to yourself until you believe it and receive it. It may seem strange, but it just may help you build a healthy identity confidence as well. Hey, if you never try new things, how are you going to change? Break out and break through!
