Great things for me

He who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is His name. Luke 1:49

In response to being chosen to be the mother of the Messiah, Mary wrote a song, a prayer, a proclamation that declared her gratitude. Of all the women of all time, only one could be selected for this special purpose and God chose Mary. She realized that because of this special mission to be the “mother of God” so to speak, that for generations to come she would be called “blessed”.

Notice Mary’s perspective on this miracle. She exclaims “He who is mighty has done great things for me”. Mary recognized that this was God’s grace on her life. She is not talking about how great she is, but how great God is. Not that she has done great things for God, but that God has done great things for her. Not that she is holy, but that He is holy.

We need to have the same perspective on life. Whatever blessings we are fortunate enough to experience should be recognized as a gift from God. It is a gift of His grace. I believe it was because of her attitude that Mary was chosen. God saw in her a girl who would not only be responsive in faith but who would also show God gratitude and give God glory.

May we have the same attitude towards what God does in our lives. May we see the hand of God in our lives. May we recognize that God is doing great things for us everyday and glorify Him for it.

Today’s prayer: “Lord I thank You for all You do for me. You are Mighty and Holy and I am grateful for all Your blessings.”

Moving on Grace,
