God of All Comfort

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. 2 Cor. 1:3-4

We all go through our fair share of pain and suffering. In this fallen world in which we live, difficulty is a part of life. But God promises to use even the bad things for a good purpose. He not only can comfort us during times of sorrow, but God can use our experience to bring comfort to others. In fact, one of the reasons why God allows us to experience problems is so that we can both relate to the problems of others, and help them through it. We can pass along to them what we have learned and what God has done for us during a similar time.

When people try to comfort us who have never gone through what we are going through, their words can seem like mist evaporating into thin air. But when someone who has gone through the same thing we are going through speaks into our lives, it has substance and can remain with us for a lifetime.

Consider this...
The trial you are going through is a school that will enable you to help others in the future. You may say, “I did not sign up for this school. I want out. Class dismissed.” But God is the One who knows what we can handle, He knows what we need to learn, and whom we will need to comfort in the future.

So instead of getting angry about your trial, get thankful. That’s right. Thank God for not only comforting you, but for training you and using you in the future. You cannot have a testimony without a test. You cannot comfort others if you have never been comforted yourself. So get ready to pass along the life lesson you are learning. There is someone out there who needs your experience. It will comfort them, and see them through.

Today’s prayer thought:
“Lord, help me to receive Your comfort and comfort others with it in the future.”

Keep looking up,
Pastor Gary
