Glad in God's House

"I was glad when they said, 'Let us go into the house of the Lord." Psalm 122:1

This is one of the "Song of Ascents" that we're sung by God's people as they were approaching the temple of the Lord. David had an affinity towards God's house. Symbolically, it is the place where God dwelt, although even the heavens cannot contain Him. It was a place to meet with God and God's people. Jesus called it "My Father's house".

We too should have a spirit of excitement about going to church. For where two or three are gathered in His name, Jesus is there in the midst of us in a special way. Of course it is not the only place God meets with us. We can experience God anywhere. But there is something special about a gathering of believer's in a local church. In fact we are the church. The church is not a building, the church is the people. And the fellowship we share with God and one another is priceless.

I want to encourage you to be a part of your local church. Attend it regularly. Give to it generously. Serve it faithfully. You will find great satisfaction from being a part of something bigger than yourself.

This Sunday on your way to church, say a little prayer for the pastor. Ask God to open your heart to the worship and sermon. As you do, you will get more out of it than ever before. You will enter into the house of the Lord with gladness and that spirit will pay off with eternal dividends.

Today's prayer thought: Lord help me be prepared when I go to church. That I may come with an open heart, open mind, and open hands.
