Friend Of Sinners

The Son of man has come eating and drinking, and you say, “Look, a glutton and a winebibber, a friend of tax collectors and sinners”.
Luke 7:34

Jesus recognized that the religious leaders of His generation were people who choose to see the worst in others. John the Baptist did not eat or drink common food and they said he had a demon. Jesus ate the common food and wine and they called Him a glutton and a wine bibber. Jesus knew that there was no pleasing them. Sad how religious people can be more known for what they are against than what they stand for!

Jesus on the other hand did not see the worst in people. He saw the best in them. He lifted them up rather than put them down. What a beautiful thing to have the reputation of being a friend of sinners. I for one am glad Jesus is a friend of sinners because I am one. In fact, if Jesus had not been a friend of sinners, He would have had no friends at all.

Jesus shows us the heart of God toward us. He desires to love us and lift us up and bless us. Not condemn us and judge us. Jesus took the curse of sin so that we could have the blessing of God. So let us believe in God’s love for us. Also like Abraham, we will be called the friends of God.

Today’s prayer: “Lord thank you for being friends with a sinner like me. Help me to lift up the sinners around me like have done for me.”

Moving on Grace,
Pastor Gary
