darkness and Light
And God saw the light, that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness. Gen. 1:4
Good and evil. Darkness and light. The battle has been raging since the dawn of creation. The Bible describes the beginning of creation as order coming out of chaos by saying, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters” (Genesis 1:1-2). Since that time there has been a spiritual battle. We have all seen it. We have all experienced it. For the battle is being fought within all of us.
Today is October 31. A day when many celebrate darkness like no other time of the year. It can be a time of fun. No harm in dressing up or eating candy for sure. But whenever we play with the dark side, we can easily get caught up in the thrill of doing what we are not supposed to do. It was that kind of rebellion against the limitations in the garden, that led Adam and Eve to commit the first sin. Since then we have all been affected and seen the devastation that can come as a result of a darkened spirit.
Light on the other hand speaks of many positive things: Wisdom, purity, enlightenment, and energy. God Himself is light and in Him there is no darkness at all (1 John 1:5).
Say a little prayer for souls tonight. That light may prevail on the darkest night of the year. And should you have some darkness of your own to content with, take it to the Lord of light and let Him shine it away. That your light may shine for all to see that you have been with Jesus.
