Be My Witnesses

But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth. Acts 1:8

God offers to us a power that is beyond our own. He offers a supernatural ability to live the divine life. The role of God’s Spirit in our lives is so vital that Jesus told the Disciples not to even begin doing ministry for Him until they had received this anointing from above. But when we are operating in the spirit, we become what Jesus desires for us to be: Witnesses.

It doesn’t say to go “witnessing”, but to be a “witnesses”. God is always more interested in who we are than what we do or what we are becoming. A witness is someone that can testify from firsthand experience. That is what God needs from us to be a better reflection of Him. To be in such proximity to Him that we witness Him and what He does in our lives.

Being influenced by God’s spirit is the single most important factor in our Christian lives. We are constantly under the influence of things: Peer pressure, alcohol, greed, anger, dreams, jealousy, materialism, movies, anything. We are influenced by our surroundings. With all that is going on around us, we need to make a concerted effort to allow the Spirit of God to influence us from the inside. For when we are influenced by the Spirit of Jesus we are at our best. Then we become His witnesses.

Today’s prayer: “Lord I present myself to You so that You are the number one influence upon my life.”
