Abide In Jesus

“I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. John 15:5

In John 15 Jesus gives us the metaphor of a vine and its branches to describe our relationship to Him. The vine is what draws in the resources from the earth. However, where the life comes from is unseen. It is below the surface. The branches on the other hand, being connected to the vine, receives from its nutrients and bear fruit above the ground for all to see.

Jesus reminds us to abide in Him, remain in Him, and stay connected to Him. It is then and only then that His life can flow through you and produce divine fruit. Notice Jesus did not say, “Abide in bible study, or church, or potlucks, or ministry”. The key is to abide in “Him”. These other things can lead us to Jesus, but they are not the same as Jesus.

In fact you can read your bible and not even hear the voice of God. You can be lost in church and unsaved. You can do ministry for all the wrong reasons. What we need is Jesus! Without Him we can do nothing. Nothing eternal. Nothing divine. But with Him we can do anything. So stay close to Jesus. Sit at His feet. Spend time meditating on His spirit and His words. Expose yourself to Him and He will shine in you. Abiding in Christ is the key to the abundant life. He has all you need and all you want.

Today’s prayer thought:
“Lord help me to have a growing desire and discipline to abide in You, that I might know You and be more like You."

Keep looking up,
